Well its a year to the day that i posted my last blog about the ridiculously long waiting times for driving tests in this country, and a year later, has anything improved?
Simple answer is no. And if anything the waiting times have increased. We are assured that the DVSA are doing everything they can to reduce waiting times for practical tests but whatever they are doing its simply not working with test availability across the country at an all time low and in some places no availability at all. Examiners are working longer hours and examiner recruitment is continuing but the situation is still pretty dire with up to 5 months waiting times in places. Social media is awash with resellers offering driving tests at ridiculously inflated prices and people are so desperate they are paying these crooks hundreds of pounds for a slot. Even my own customers have been telling me they are tempted to use one of these resellers.
And the strange thing is that whenever I am at the test centre with one of my students invariably there is a 'no show' for one of the slots. And from what i can gather many of these 'no shows' are from people out the area? Its so frustrating for the examiners and also for us instructors because that slot could have been used by a local person. Apps such as 'Testi' and 'Test Switch' are still making their developers money because people are using them to find earlier dates. Its a bad situation which doesn't look like it will be resolved anytime soon.
